The Super Eagles number goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali had written his name in gold in the heart of Nigeria following his heroic performance between the goalpost at the ongoing AFCON 2023.

The Chippa United goalkeeper took the number-one spot from Francis Uzoho heading into the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire. The goalkeeping department has been a major concern for Nigerians because of how poor Uzoho has been.

Where did Stanley Nwabali start his football career?

We have decided to highlight three things you need to know about Nwabali who is nicknamed Bobo:

This 27-year-old goalkeeper began his youth career as a striker at Go Round FC in Nigeria. He was later converted to a goalkeeper and that seems to be the best decision he has made in his career.

When did Stanley Nwabali make his debut for Nigeria?

Nwabali’s debut for the Super Eagles is not one that anyone would have loved to see after he conceded four goals in the friendly game against Mexico in September 2021. However, his impressive form for Chippa United caught the attention of Jose Peseiro who personally travelled to witness Nwabali in action.

Which Clubs did Nwabali play for in Nigeria before joining Chippa United?

Nwabali began his professional career with Go Round FC in Nigeria’s second division. The player’s impressive performance caught the attention of two-time CAF Champions League winner, Enyima who signed him the following season. He went on to with the NPFL trophy with the Aba Elephants.

He later played for Wikki Tourists and Lobi Stars before moving to South Africa to join Chippa United during the 2022 summer transfer window.

Nwabali has kept four clean sheets at this competition ( Guinea Bissau, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Angola). However, Nigerians will hope he keeps a clean sheet when the Eagles face the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire in the final match on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
