Who Is Tiwa Savage?

Multiple-awarding winning Singer and Songwriter Tiwatope Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, was born on the 5th of February 1980 in Isale Eko in Lagos state to Nigerian parents before she relocated to London with her family at the age of 11 to further her education.

She studied Business Administration at the University of Kent before graduating with a degree in professional music at 27.

The talented artist later moved back to Nigeria in 2012 and was signed to be the first lady of Don Jazzy’s record label Mavin Records.

5. She Started Singing At The Age Of 16

Tiwa Savage started her musical career as a backup singer for popular foreign artists at the young age of 16. She provided backup vocals for notable and award-winning musicians like’ Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Destiny’s Child and other special mentions.

4. She Was A Contestant On UK’s X-Factor

Most people don’t know that Tiwa had been a contestant on Simon Cowell’s Uk X-Factor in 2006 and had made the cut of 24 finalists.

3. She Is A Successful Songwriter

Miss Savage is a popular name in the international music scene as she has written songs for big names like Babyface, Kat Deluna, Monica, Fantasia. She received songwriting credits for her contribution to Monica’s song “Catch Me,” she also contributed to the Grammy-nominated song by Fantasia titled “Collard Greens & Cornbread.” Her contribution to Jaicko’s “Oh Yeah,” which featured Snoop Dogg, and Deluna’s “Push Push,” which featured Akon, are also worth mentioning.

2. She Was The First Nigerian To Be Signed To Roc Nation

On the 29th of July, 2016, Tiwa took to her official Instagram page to announce that she had signed a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation, making her the first Nigerian to be signed to the Jay Z outfit.

On the 2nd of May 2019, Universal Music Group announced that they had signed Tiwa Savage on a seven-year publishing and distribution deal. The UMG brand houses major artists like Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, etc. This makes this a notable achievement worth mentioning for Tiwa Savage.
