Rap mogul 50 Cent is taking legal action against his ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, claiming she violated a long-standing contract by publicly sharing details of their past relationship. According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, 50 Cent’s publishing imprint, G-Unit Books, has filed a lawsuit alleging that Tompkins breached an agreement signed in 2007 that gave the company exclusive rights to her life story.
The contract, reportedly worth $80,000 plus future royalties, was intended to secure the rights for potential biographical or autobiographical projects. However, the lawsuit claims that Tompkins recently promoted tell-all content online, including interviews posted to social media in which she discusses her relationship with 50 Cent—real name Curtis Jackson—and their son, Marquise.
In the clips, Tompkins accuses Jackson of assaulting her during her pregnancy and being abusive during their time together. The lawsuit argues these revelations are not only personal but legally problematic, given the exclusive deal she made with G-Unit Books nearly two decades ago.
“Capitalizing on her recent notoriety from a ‘viral’ post commenting on testimony in the high-profile ‘Diddy’ trial, Tompkins has repeatedly and deliberately exploited the very rights she conveyed to G-Unit Books,” the complaint states.
Jackson’s attorney, Reena Jain, emphasized the seriousness of the alleged breach: “Tompkins’ behavior was intentional—she explicitly referenced the very agreement she breached while she actively breached it, stating it was something that was ‘going to have to be worked out legally.’”
Jain added that Jackson secured the rights in part to prevent future attempts to “monetize their history and his name”—a concern she says has now come true.
With the lawsuit, 50 Cent is seeking at least $1 million in damages, the removal of the offending content, an injunction to prevent further disclosures, and reimbursement for legal fees.
50 Cent and Tompkins were romantically involved throughout the 1990s, and their son Marquise was born in October 1996. Their relationship ended before Jackson’s rise to superstardom with the release of Get Rich or Die Tryin’, and they became embroiled in a protracted custody dispute that lasted until 2008.
Neither Tompkins nor her legal team has publicly responded to the lawsuit at this time.
