Nigerian singer and record producer, Michael Collins Ajereh widely known as Don Jazzy, has set the record straight about Mavin Records being sold.

Speaking candidly on the latest episode of the Zero Conditions Podcast today, January 12, 2024, the music mogul acknowledged that investors have expressed interest in acquiring the label, but emphasized that such speculations are inevitable.

In the interview, Don Jazzy explained, “We have investors, and they have been here for five years, so they have to go. If you get gold or you get diamonds, people go dey, people wey wan. Or if you be fine girl, people go dey approach you nau. Dem wan toast and as we dey like this, if you get breast, you get yansh.”

Dan Jazzy’s analogy suggests that the label attracts interest akin to valuable commodities or an attractive individual.

Contrary to the swirling rumors, Don Jazzy made it clear that Mavin Records is not currently considering any sale to investors or platforms. Despite proposals and efforts by investors seeking to acquire the label, Don Jazzy remains firmly at the helm.

Mavin Records, created on May 8, 2012, under Don Jazzy’s leadership, has played an important role in shaping the Nigerian music scene, nurturing talents like Tiwa Savage and Korede Bello, who have since moved on.

The current roster of signees includes Ayra Starr, Rema, Ladipoe, Boy Spyce and Johnny Drille, exemplifying the label’s commitment to fostering emerging talents in the industry. As the speculation settles, Mavin Records continues its legacy as a powerhouse in the Nigerian music landscape.
