Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the exit of Ian Maasten on a loan deal to Borussia Dortmund until the end of this season.
The defender has not been able to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s first team since the Argentine took over in June 2023. However, he has been able to get 15 appearances this season under the Argentine but he needs more game time so he can be able to complete his development.
He has signed a new contract at Chelsea, which will extend his stay in west London until 2026 while he spends the remainder of the season in Germany.
Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl showered praises on the young defender. According to him, the Dutch International fits into the plans of the club as they look to strengthen their left-back.
“Due to our current personnel situation, we have decided to take action again in the left-back position in the winter, with his strengths, Ian fits our requirements profile.”
Dortmund supporters will hope that the arrival of Maasten and Jadon Sancho will help their quest to win the Bundesliga and other cup competitions.
