The European Super League has been a topic of conversation among football fans around the world since it was introduced by the organisers.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are the lead runners in ensuring that the Super League project is up and running. There are reports that the competition will kick off next season with a few clubs showing interest in this project.
Barcelona’s President, Joan Laporta has given an update on the Super League. According to him, only 12 teams have shown interest in the Super League and there is a possibility that it will kick off next season or in two seasons time.
“As of now, these are the teams in the Super League: Barcelona, Madrid, Inter, Milan, Napoli, Roma, Marseille, three Dutch teams, Brugge, and Anderlecht. In 1955, only 16 or 18 teams played the European Cup, and it eventually became the biggest tournament. We will start with the Super League in the 2024/2025, or maybe the 2025/2026 season. I would be happy if the English teams joined.”
He also spoke about Xavi Hernandez’s decision to leave the club at the end of this season. According to him, he respects the decision of the Spaniard to leave the club.
He said,
“I will not dismiss Xavi in any case. Xavi told me that it was best to leave and he was giving up the year of his remaining contract. I told Xavi that I only accepted this formula – staying until June 30 only because it’s him.”
