The Premier League in an official report has revealed that a new player has been crowned the fastest player in the league’s history since the collection of data started in 2021.
The fastest player in the Premier League record was initially held by Manchester City’s defender Kylie Walker but the recent reports by the league confirm that there is a new sheriff in town.
Micky van de Ven, a 22-year-old defender for Tottenham Hotspur, has recently set a new record as the fastest player ever recorded in the Premier League. During his time playing for Wolfsburg last season, he hit a top speed of 35.97 km/h. However, he outdid himself in a recent match against Brentford on 31 January 2024, clocking an astonishing 37.38 km/h, a record in the Premier League since the data started being collected in 2020/21.
To put his exceptional feat into context, Van de Ven’s blistering pace against Brentford was equivalent to 10.38 meters per second, or 23.23 miles per hour. When sprinter Usain Bolt set the current 100m world record in 2009, his average speed was 10.44 meters per second, or 23.35mph (37.58 km/h). This impressive athletic achievement by Van de Ven has earned him a place in the history books of the Premier League.
