The 2023 men’s Ballon d’Or award ceremony will always be remembered by football fans around the world as one where Erling Haaland was robbed of the trophy.
The Norwegian international has spoken for the first time about what he feels about Lionel Messi winning the award ahead of him. Haaland was asked while he speaking at Manchester City’s pre-match conference ahead of the Champions League second-round clash against Copenhagen.
He was asked if Messi would have to retire for him ( Haaland) to win individual awards looking that the Argentine won both the FIFA Best award and the Ballon d’Or.
“Good question, yes true he won it and he won the World Cup so… I don’t know what to say. He is the best that has ever played so yeah, I don’t know”
However, Haaland’s chance of winning any of these individual awards this season is going to be difficult because he has not been able to replicate the same form that saw him blow away teams last season.
