Afrobeat rising star, Ayra Starr, has shared intimate details about her admiration for fellow artist, Rema and the profound impact he has had on her career path.

Speaking in an interview with Capital Xtra that surfaced online on Thursday, March 14, 2024, the Comma crooner reflected on her journey alongside Rema, highlighting his role as both a mentor and a friend.

In her words, “Rema is very honest with me, I play him almost every song before it comes out, and he’s just like, hm… I don’t know about that one oh.” The sincerity of Rema’s feedback, coupled with his discerning ear, has been instrumental in shaping Ayra Starr’s artistic vision.

The admiration Ayra Starr holds for Rema traces back to her pre-Mavin Records days when she first encountered his groundbreaking EP. “His first EP, I was like wow! This is a Nigerian teenage boy,” Ayra Starr reminisced. “He was like 18, I was like wow! I didn’t know that was possible. I can do this too.” Rema’s early success served as a source of inspiration and motivation for Ayra Starr, instilling in her a belief in her own potential.

Describing Rema as “a very good friend and an amazing artist,” Ayra Starr expressed her gratitude for his support and guidance. “If he likes it, he will be like, hm. This one na demo. Ayra Ayra Ayra, you try you try you try,” she added.

Their bond shows how musicians in Nigeria help each other out, boosting each other’s spirits as they grow in the music world. Ayra Starr’s rise in her music career and her teamwork with Rema prove how mentoring and sharing ideas can really make a difference.
