The round leather game popular known as football is the most played sports in the world, this beautiful game is being governed by laws which is the same everywhere the sport is played.

The body governing football in the world, FIFA has established these rules known as the Laws of the Game. These laws govern all aspects of the sport, including player conduct, field dimensions, and the roles of referees and officials. Key aspects include rules on fouls, offside, the ball in and out of play, penalties, free kicks, and throw-ins.

As time changes there are new laws being introduced into the game to ensure fair play and consistency in football matches worldwide. These laws are basically introduced because of incidents that have occurred in the past and a repetition of such incident is been avoided.

Here are four players that made FIFA change the rules of the game;

Eminialo Martinez

The Aston Villa and Argentine goalkeeper was known for talking to players whenever he is about to face a penalty, this was something he did a lot of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. This attitude from him made FIFA change the rules and keepers are no longer allowed to talk to the shooters.

Frank Lampard

The Chelsea legend saw his goal unjustly ruled out against Germany at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the ball was adjudged to have not crossed the line but after several replays the ball crossed the line completely.

This incident made FIFA introduced the goal line technology which notifies the centre referee whenever the ball crosses the line.

Peter Schmeichel

The Danish goalkeeper during the Euro 1992 will pass the ball to his defenders and later pick it up. He will wait for the attacker to grab the ball before he picks it up in a bid to waste time.

This led FIFA to change the rule which prohibits keepers to pick up the ball from their teammates in a football match, whenever a keeper picks a ball passed to him by his player, it is considered an indirect freekick to opposition team.

Diego Forlan

In 2002, Diego Forlan scored a goal for Manchester United during a game against Southampton and took off his shirt. The jubilation lasted for long and when the game kicked off again he was still without his shirt. When Forlan resumed the game he was running after a Southampton player with his bare chest while trying to make a tackle.

This act ensured that FIFA imposed a rule to sanction any player who takes off his shirt during goal celebration.
