A Delta High Court in Effurun has approved an out-of-court settlement between Brownhill Investment Company and popular music artist, David Adeleke, known as Davido.

Justice Michael Obi of High Court Three, Effurun, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, praised both parties for resolving the matter amicably. In his statement, Justice Michael Obi said, “I commend both parties for exploring an amicable resolution to settle out of court.”

Brownhill Investment Company, owned by Mr. Amaju Pinnick, former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), filed a suit against Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, in October 2023. The suit, marked EHC/183/2023, was related to a breach of contract for Davido’s performance at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert.’

Mr. Amaju Pinnick’s company sought N2 billion in general damages and N150 million for legal and professional fees, with an additional N30 million for filing costs.

Reacting to the court’s verdict, Mr. Oladayo Ogungbe, counsel to the defendants, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), “Davido is coming again to Warri on Oct. 4 to perform – that forms part of the settlement.”

“It’s fine. It is better than going through the rigors of litigations. Both parties consider the option of having the matter settled out of court, which in my opinion as a lawyer, is the best approach to any litigation. It is a win-win situation to both parties,” Ogungbe added.

The ‘Warri Again’ concert, an annual event organized by Pinnick, celebrates entertainers from the Niger Delta region.
