Following the Xabi Alonso sub, the possible replacement for Jurgen Klopp as the head coach of Liverpool has been revealed.
On Friday, Liverpool’s attempts to bring Xabi Alonso back to Anfield were dealt a blow as the Spaniard decided to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen. The club is currently on track for their first-ever Bundesliga title and remains unbeaten in 38 games across all competitions this season.
As a former Liverpool player and Champions League winner, Alonso was quickly installed as a favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp after the German’s announcement in January that he would leave at the end of the season.
However, with Alonso’s decision to remain at Leverkusen, Liverpool’s hopes of securing his services to soften the blow of Klopp’s impending departure have been dashed. Currently, Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim is the new front-runner with bookmakers, followed by Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann.
🚨🔴🇵🇹 Ruben Amorim remains the main name on Liverpool list as new head coach; not the only one but concrete option being considered.
Liverpool are informed about the clause into his contract at Sporting, as already reported weeks ago.
