Nigerian street-pop artist, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has ignited controversy online after a video of him criticizing fellow musician, Shallipopi surfaced.
Portable’s remarks followed a clip showing Shallipopi flaunting his newly acquired Timberland shoes.
In a post on his Instagram story on Thursday, April 11, 2024, Portable took issue with Shallipopi’s extravagant lifestyle, suggesting the Edo-born artist was not prioritizing his future. He questioned the message Shallipopi intended to convey in the video, which depicted him holding a cutlass while wearing Timberland shoes. Portable expressed confusion over Shallipopi’s choice to showcase such behavior instead of focusing on more meaningful investments.
Portable also made a pointed remark, referring to Shallipopi as a “farmer’s boy” — a term implying that the artist artificially boosts his song streams through paid farming services. This critique from Portable has stirred debate among fans and industry insiders as they continue to share their thoughts on the issue.
