Tyla, the rising Grammy award-winning South African artist, stole the show at the 2024 Met Gala.
The theme for this year’s event was “Garden of Time,” and Tyla, with her stylist Katie Qian, stunned with their choice. They opted for a sand-themed gown designed by the prestigious fashion house Balmain.
This wasn’t your average shimmering dress. The Balmain gown was designed to depict the “sands of time” and was a custom-sculpted masterpiece. It hugged Tyla’s figure like a second skin, resembling a scene straight out of a Dune movie.
It wasn’t just the form-hugging design that made the difference, the real magic was in the details. Apparently, it joined three distinct sand colours to create a textural effect. Also, there reportedly were tiny, shimmering micro-crystal studs throughout the sand-textured fabric. Which were said to mimic the way sunlight glints off desert dunes.
Tyla committed to the theme way beyond the dress. She rocked a sleek cat-eye liner makeup look similar to that of the Egyptian Goddesses. She also had a sprinkling of sand adorning her left shoulder. Even her nails joined the artistic narrative, sporting 3D chain embellishments that resembled dripping sand.
Lastly, her bag was a stunning hourglass-shaped Balmain clutch, a literal embodiment of the “Garden of Time” theme. Her look at the Met Gala indicates her dedication to details, not just in fashion, but also in her life and her music. She continues to spearhead the message of the uniqueness of Africa.
