Thomas Muller after the shocking defeat of Germany in the Euro 2024 Quarter-finals fixture against Spain has hinted on a possible retirement date from football.

After their heartbreaking loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 quarter-final, Germany and Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has hinted at a potential retirement from the German national team.

The Spain vs. Germany match was one of the highlights of the Euro 2024 tournament, with Spain edging past Germany in extra time thanks to a 119th-minute winner from midfielder Mikel Merino. Following the match, the Bayern Munich star revealed that he might have played his final game for the German national team.

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Müller said: “There is a high probability that this was my last international match.”

Arguably one of the greatest strikers to ever grace the field of play, Thomas Muller has consistently being a prolific figure for both Bayern Munich and Germany in front of goal over the years.

A consistent scorer and creator of goals, Müller is known for his intelligent movement off the ball and his ability to time his attacking runs.

In a recent interview, he described himself as a player who can find gaps in the opposition’s defense, though he admits he is not particularly good at dribbling or one-on-ones.

Müller began his international career with Germany’s U-16 team in 2004 and has steadily risen through the ranks, receiving his first senior call-up in 2010.

Over more than 10 years with the German senior team, Müller has played 131 games and scored 45 goals. His illustrious career includes numerous honours at both the club and national levels. For Germany, he won the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and secured a third-place finish in 2010. His individual accolades include:

  • FIFA World Cup Golden Boot: 2010
  • FIFA World Cup Best Young Player: 2010
  • FIFA World Cup All-Star Team: 2010
  • FIFA World Cup Silver Boot: 2014
  • FIFA World Cup Silver Ball: 2014
  • FIFA World Cup All-Star Team: 2014
  • FIFA World Cup Dream Team: 2014
  • World Soccer Young Player of the Year: 2010
  • Bravo Award: 2010

Müller’s potential departure from international football marks the end of an era for the German national team, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable achievements and unforgettable moments.
