Kendrick Lamar is set to make history as the first-ever solo artist to headline the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The iconic rapper disclosed this Sunday via a post on his official X handle.

He expressed excitement over the planned performance, stating his anticipation of performing on the Super Bowl stage for a second time early next year.

In the video, Lamar said, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”

In 2022, Lamar had performed at the Super Bowl halftime show with Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg as co-headliners—a performers that marked hip-hop’s debut at the Super Bowl show.

Following the announcement, the 17 Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize winner, Kendrick Lamar has been described by Jay Z as a once-in-a-generation artist and performer.

In a statement shared on his social media page, the Roc Nation founder, Jay Z wrote, “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision.

“He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally.

“Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”

Similarly, NFL’s head of music, Seth Dudowsky, also praised the multi-Grammy Award winning artist for his cultural impact, stating that only few artists have been able to achieve the heights Lamar has attained in just a short while.

Dudowsky said, “Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar. Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”

The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show is scheduled for February 9th, 2025, at Caesars Superdome and marks the 11th time the Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans, the most recent being in 2013, according to reports.
