Belgian-Cameroonian artist Kunde is proud to announce the release of his impactful new single, “Downstream,” from his highly anticipated album, Dandelion. This evocative track draws inspiration from Kunde’s profound journey to Cameroon and captures the emotional complexity of witnessing resource extraction from the land that sustains it.

“Downstream” masterfully blends soulful jazz, raw hip-hop energy, and vibrant Afro-pop rhythms to create a unique soundscape that mirrors the multifaceted emotions tied to cultural and environmental exploitation. The song reflects Kunde’s deep connection to his roots and provides a personal narrative that highlights the often-overlooked stories of cultural and environmental plunder.

Kunde, born Joram Kunde Boumkwo, is a multi-talented Belgian-Cameroonian rapper, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. His music is a rich fusion of hip-hop, contemporary jazz, P-funk, and Afrobeat, influenced by his father’s Pan-African polyrhythmic music and his own collection of nineties hip-hop. His self-taught skills on the piano, microphone, and bass guitar contribute to his distinctive sound, reminiscent of artists such as Anderson. Paak, Patrice Rushen, Quincy Jones, Fela Kuti, and Kendrick Lamar.

Kunde’s debut album was released on February 9, 2024, under W.E.R.F. Records. This introspective concept album explores his Afropean identity, intergenerational trauma, toxic masculinity, and neocolonialism through storytelling, rap, spoken word, and field recordings from his Cameroonian journey. The album’s sonic textures harmoniously blend different musical genres, creating a groovy and colorful experience.

In addition to his recorded work, Kunde has expanded his solo project into an electrifying live band experience featuring Léa Kadian (bass), Creo Cristoria (saxophone), Jérôme Pringiers (keys), and Simon Derover (drums). His energetic concerts offer an immersive experience that fans are sure to enjoy.

“Downstream” is available for streaming on all major platforms:open.spotify.com/track/67k
