Five-time Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo has officially submitted her latest track ‘Joy,’ featuring Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido, for consideration in two prestigious categories at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards.
Kidjo announced on Saturday, October 5, through her verified Facebook account, sharing her excitement with fans and followers. The track has been entered for Best African Music Performance and Record of the Year.
But that’s not all! Kidjo’s other noteworthy submission, ‘Sunlight to My Soul,’ featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir and penned by renowned songwriter Diane Warren, has also been submitted for Best Global Music Performance and Song of the Year.
Expressing her gratitude, Kidjo highlighted the invaluable contributions of various artists and collaborators who helped bring these projects to fruition.
‘Joy’ marks the second collaboration between Kidjo and Davido, following their successful 2023 hit ‘Na Money.’
Released on August 30, 2024, the new track showcases the dynamic synergy between the two artists, blending Kidjo’s unique style with Davido’s Afrobeats flair.
Despite not winning any awards at the 2023 Grammy Awards, Davido made a significant impact with three nominations at the 66th edition.
His fourth studio album, ‘Timeless,’ was nominated for Best Global Album, while his chart-topping tracks ‘Feel’ and ‘Unavailable,’ featuring Musa Keys, were recognized in the Best Global Song Performance and Best African Song Performance categories, respectively.
The highly anticipated 2025 Grammy Awards, also known as the 67th Grammy Awards, are set to take place on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, with the nomination’s announcement scheduled for November 8, 2024.
