Former England head coach Gareth Southgate in a new interview has reacted to the reports of him becoming the next head coach of Man United.

Following initial reports of Erik Ten Hag’s possible departure from Man United, speculations as to who would take over the role of head coach have begun to surface on social media. Former England boss Gareth Southgate emerged as one of the names being considered.

In his latest interview, Gareth Southgate outright denied that he would be taking on a managerial role at the national or club level for now.

What did Gareth Southgate say about Man United?

Despite rumours connecting him to the Manchester United managerial position, Gareth Southgate has stated that he will not return to coaching within the next year.

The former England manager, who stepped down after losing to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the role at Old Trafford. This comes as Manchester United remains uncertain about Erik ten Hag’s position following a disappointing start to the season. During a European Club Association event in Athens, Southgate made it clear that he was not interested in taking over at United.

Manchester United’s leadership, including minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, held a seven-hour meeting in London on Tuesday as part of a routine gathering, where Ten Hag’s future was reportedly among the topics discussed.

He stated, “I won’t coach in the next year, for sure. I’m certain of that. I need to give myself time to make good decisions. When you come out of a really big role you need to give your body time, you need to give your mind time.”
