Meet Wav Gardn: a futuristic neo-soul five-piece who take a bold and experimental approach to songwriting.

The band features lead vocalist Siiisa; music director, producer and curator Johnny Basz, Finny the producer guy (the guy with the great ear, as the band like to say); Lungsta (the people’s keyboardist) anddrummer superstar Tumiso (better known as De’tumi).

With spiritual undertones and synth arrangements, their debut single “Umzi Watsha” is a beautifully restorative offering, imbued with Afro-folk melodies.

In fact, the song is a rendition of an old Xhosa nursery rhyme that many South Africans would likely have been taught as children – a nostalgic journey to simpler times.

And already, off the back of this one single, you get the feeling that Wav Gardn is more than just a band of musicians. It’s a family. You feel the synchronicity between them, the trust, as it translates into the warmth of their sound. It’s like listening to an early Kujenga, which in itself is very exciting.

They’re set to release their debut album next year, and we’re amped to see what they have in store for us.
