The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the suspension of actress Halima Abubakar due to findings of “unprofessional misconduct.” The decision comes after a comprehensive two-year investigation by a special secret panel, which revealed Abubakar’s involvement in spreading false information about fellow guild members and associates.
The AGN’s memo, released on Friday, October 18, detailed the actress’s actions, which allegedly included slanderous claims concerning extramarital affairs involving prominent figures in society. The guild emphasized the damaging impact of such allegations on the reputation of its members and the industry as a whole.
“After painstaking investigations, the panel found that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind the dissemination of misleading information about our members, particularly concerning relationships with highly placed individuals,” the memo stated.
As a result of the findings, Abubakar has been placed on indefinite suspension and is prohibited from participating in any filming projects or AGN activities during this period. The national disciplinary committee will determine the extent of her punishment following this suspension.
The AGN has also announced that the secret investigation panel is currently examining other female members who may be involved in similar scandals, specifically regarding allegations connected to the Senate President.
“The National/State Chapter Taskforces have been mandated to ensure compliance with this order, as any violations of the suspension rules may lead to further disciplinary actions,” the guild added.
In closing, the AGN commended the thorough and professional work conducted by the investigative panel, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the industry.
