Ibrahim ‘Primeboy’ Owodunni, a close friend of the late singer Mohbad, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), claiming a violation of his fundamental human rights. The action follows the Lagos State police command’s declaration of Primeboy as wanted for failing to respond to a summons regarding the investigation into Mohbad’s death.

On October 4, 2023, the police issued a wanted notice for Primeboy. However, he turned himself in the very next day. In a statement released on Thursday, his lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, revealed that Primeboy is seeking a court order to remove his name from the police’s wanted list.

The lawsuit was filed on October 11 at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. Ogunbona stated that the special police bulletin declaring Primeboy wanted “violates his right to dignity and respect as a human being.” The suit further calls for the court to deem the police action unconstitutional and demands the retraction of the wanted notice.

“Primeboy has sued the police via an originating motion filed before the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos on October 11,” the statement reads. “He is requesting several reliefs, including a declaration that the special police gazette bulletin issued by the Inspector General of Police was a contravention of his rights.”

Since Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, under mysterious circumstances, Primeboy has found himself at the center of public scrutiny. Recently, he threatened to sue Mohbad’s mother for defamation, accusing her of making false claims about an alleged altercation between him and her son before the singer’s passing. He has also filed a petition against Omowunmi, Mohbad’s widow, over what he describes as “false allegations.”

Mohbad was buried a day after his death, but his body was exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). The autopsy, however, revealed no significant findings, prompting Mohbad’s family to reject the results and initiate an independent investigation into the true cause of his death.
