Don’t Raise Your Daughters to Rely on Others for Financial Support – Simi

In a powerful message shared on her official TikTok account, Nigerian singer Simi has championed the essential need for financial independence among women, urging parents to raise daughters who understand the importance of self-sufficiency.

Simi emphasized the importance of women taking charge of their financial futures, stating, “Please do not raise your daughters to think that when they grow up, all they have to do is rely on someone else. When someone is spoiling you, it shouldn’t be because you cannot spoil yourself.” She encouraged a mindset of mutual support in relationships, saying, “As they are spoiling you, you too are spoiling them, and let them know that you’re standing strong.”

Simi highlighted the security that comes with economic independence, explaining that it empowers women to protect themselves and affirm their worth. “There is security in knowing that you have got yourself,” she said. “A woman’s economic power is in fending for herself and being able to confidently acknowledge that she is a complete person. You deserve good things; you need to occupy space.”

Reflecting on her own journey, Simi acknowledged her privilege and the support she received throughout her life. “I admit that I say this from a place of privilege. I grew up among people who believed in me, pushed me, and encouraged me. I had chances that took me from here to here, but some women had to work with less.”

Simi called for societal support, urging individuals to uplift deserving women when they have the opportunity. “Less love, less faith, less kindness and opportunities—this is where society must step in. When you are in a position to give a deserving woman an opportunity, please give it to her.”
