We love this new era for Dan Duminy, as he explores his newfound pop sensibilities, and his latest single “Favors” (featuring fellow artist and friend Tellaman) is yet another quintessential offering by SA’s very own The Kid LAROI.
The connection between Dan and Tellaman goes way beyond music. In fact, they’ve been friends for years. “I’ve always admired Tellaman’s work,” says Dan. “When I made [Favors] in Los Angeles, I sent it to him, and the energy was instant. We vibed out, shared ideas and the song came together naturally.”
The process started with a simple melody layering atmospheric sounds, working on lyrics that reflected the song’s deeper themes. “We wanted to create a nostalgic, introspective vibe,” explains Dan. “It was important for us to let the emotions flow naturally, and keep it authentic.”
At its core, this R&B-tinged single delves into love and self-discovery, as Dan reflects on the experiences that have shaped him. “The song is about embracing the good and the bad, the moments that help us grow and the vulnerability that comes with that,” shares the singer-songwriter.
For Dan, 2024 has been a year filled with milestones, after going independent, releasing new music and recording with American songwriting treasure Diane Warren in Los Angeles. He’s now gearing up to release his first EP and debut album in 2025, continuing to experiment with new sounds and genres, and we’ve no doubt that it’s only going to get better from here.
