It has been a hot minute since we heard from our #SpotlightOn Artist Jonny Hayes, who featured as part of the series back in February 2023.
Over the last year and a half, the sensitive folk muso has been silently working on his craft, and finally he’s back with a new single called “Little Light”.
Capturing the raw energy of youth and reflecting on the need for inner peace, Hayes worked with producer Jake Ferguson (BOYDRIVE, TogetherEffect, Grace City) in a makeshift DIY home studio nestled in the pine forests of Hout Bay to bring this gritty yet heartfelt track to life.
In fact, the collaboration was cross-continental, bringing in the additional mastering skills of friends in Nashville, Tennessee. The result? A sparkling indie-pop single.
With riffs that are a little heavier than we’re used to from Hayes, it’s nice to see him experimenting with his style. Still he retains his trademark acoustic tone, all culminating in a driving arrangement of Coldplay-esque synths that scream euphoria.
