Ruger just earned his third career certification as his hit single Asiwaju just became certified Gold in France. The record which was released on the 15th of November 2022 marks Ruger’s third career certification on the song.
Asiwaju was initially released as a filler record, as Ruger initially announced the release of Red Flags for the 15th, then announced he’d be dropping two songs a few days before release.
The record immediately became a smash hit on the local market, also because it was linked to the then APC presidential candidate for the 2023 elections Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Asiwaju went on to dominate the market and further establish Ruger’s position as a certified hit maker in the genre and is now doing exploits for him on foreign soil.
In an interview with Wonderland Magazine, Ruger described “Asiwaju” as a reflection of his current lifestyle, embodying confidence and self-assurance. He explained that the song conveys the message, “I’m saying I’m ahead of them and nothing can stop me.” The lyrics reinforce this theme with bold declarations of dominance and resilience.

It was nominated for the Afrobeats single of the year and Headies viewers’ choice at the 2023 Headies. At the time, “Asiwaju” eventually spent seven weeks atop the Official Nigeria Top 100, becoming the longest-running number-one song since Fireboy DML and Asake’s “Bandana.” It also tied for the third-longest number-one run in the chart’s history, behind Omah Lay’s “Godly” (11 weeks) and Joeboy’s “Sip (Alcohol)” (10 weeks).

It was first certified 3x Platinum in Nigeria by TCSN and then silver in the United Kingdom by BPI. His France certification is his third on the single.
