Arsenal supporters were left furious following the comments made by Mikel Arteta after his team’s disappointing performance against Newcastle United.
The Gunners’ manager blamed the texture of the ball as one of the reasons why his team lost to the Magpies. According to Mikel Arteta, the ball used in the Carabao Cup is different from what is used in the Premier League which made it difficult for his players to make use of it effectively.
When asked about Arsenal’s missed chances they had 23 shots, but just three on target.
He said,
We also kicked a lot of balls over the bar, and it’s tricky that these balls fly a lot so there’s details that we can do better. But at the end that’s gone, there’s no way back it’s about the next game and that’s our world, the reality.”
He continued,
“No, it’s just different. It’s very different to the Premier League ball and you have to adapt to that. It flies different when you touch it, the grip is very different as well so you have to adapt to that.”
The victory gives Newcastle United a chance to win a trophy since the new owners took over the club in 2022, this is also seventh consecutive victory while Arsenal will have to turn their attention to other competitions.
