Nigerian superstars Wizkid and Bloody Civilian continue to make waves on the global stage as Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By the Film, an album they contributed to, clinched the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

The award was announced during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards premiere ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2. Queen Sheba presented the award, with the album emerging victorious over Collie Buddz’ Take It Easy, Shenseea’s Never Gets Late Here, Vybz Kartel’s Party With Me, and The Wailers’ Evolution.

Wizkid, Bloody Civilian Contribution to the Award-Winning Album

Released in February 2024 via Tuff Gong and Island Records, the 10-track project reimagines Bob Marley’s timeless classics through fresh interpretations by a star-studded lineup, including Wizkid, Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Leon Bridges, Shenseea, Farruko, Jessie Reyez, Mystic Marley, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley.

However, they will not be credited with Grammy wins because the Recording Academy stipulates that “the winning album’s featured artists, producers, and engineers are also eligible for the award if they contributed to more than 50% of playing time on the project.”

Despite that, their feature on the album further cements their global influence beyond Afrobeats, proving versatility across different music genres. Wizkid’s presence on the project introduced Marley’s legendary sound to a new generation of African and international fans while also expanding Nigeria’s footprint in the reggae world.

The One Love album, inspired by the Bob Marley biopic of the same name, reached No. 10 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and has been widely praised for its fresh take on Marley’s classics. The film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, starred Ben Kingsley-Adir as Marley, Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley, and James Norton as Chris Blackwell.
