Columbus Irisoanga, the renowned Nigerian actor best known for his unforgettable role as Chief Priest Igbudu in the 2001 Nollywood hit Issakaba, has tragically passed away.
The news of his death was confirmed by his colleague, actress Hilda Dokubo, who shared the heartbreaking announcement in an emotional tribute on Instagram Thursday. In her post, Dokubo expressed her shock and sorrow, questioning if “heaven could be running short on angels” as more beloved figures continue to pass. She mourned the loss of Irisoanga, who she referred to as an “angel,” and emphasized the deep impact his death has had on the Nollywood community, particularly in Rivers State, where he was a respected figure.
“There can’t be a shortage of angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport Rivers State Nollywood,” she wrote. “Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu.”
As of now, the cause and exact date of Irisoanga’s death have not been disclosed.
Irisoanga, originally from Okrika in Rivers State, was not only a prominent actor but also an academic. He served as a senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, where he imparted his knowledge and experience in acting to students in the Department of Theatre Arts.
