The nomination list for the 17th Headies Awards, released on Wednesday, February 12, saw a strong representation from the gospel music industry.
Top gospel singers, including Mercy Chinwo, Dunsin Oyekan, Lawrence Oyor, and Tope Alabi, secured nominations in the Best Inspirational Single of the Year category.
Lawrence Oyor, whose song Favour recently topped the most streamed song on Spotify in January 2025 with 2.9 million streams, was nominated for his collaboration with Dunsin Oyekan on Worthy of My Praise. Tope Alabi and Gaise Baba were nominated for their song Particularly, while Mercy Chinwo earned a nomination for her single You Do This One.
The Headies Awards nomination list also featured top Afrobeats artists, including Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems, who recently won a Grammy Award. The nominees were selected based on songs released between April 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024.
