Davido following his initial comments about the commissioner of police for Osun State has issued a public apology and retraction of his initial statement.
Afrobeats star Davido has retracted his earlier criticism of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, now recognizing the efforts of security agencies in handling the recent crisis in the state.
Earlier today, the singer had strongly condemned the commissioner, accusing him of failing to enforce the rule of law amid the violence that resulted in multiple casualties.
However, in a new statement shared on X, Davido acknowledged that upon further reflection, the commissioner had indeed made “genuine efforts” to manage the situation as it unfolded.
He explained that his initial reaction was fueled by anger over the tragic and unnecessary loss of lives in the state.
Understanding the complexities involved, the singer admitted that security officials, including the police commissioner, had been working tirelessly behind the scenes.
“In memory of the innocent lives lost, emotions ran high among me and my friends. We were unaware that the Commissioner of Police had been working sleepless nights alongside other commanders. At the time, I did not fully appreciate his contributions. This was a serious oversight, and I now wish to acknowledge and commend his dedication to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace in Osun State,” Davido stated.
He further praised the commissioner’s commitment and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further unrest, particularly with the local government elections set for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
“In honor of those who lost their lives or were injured, I urge the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to strengthen their efforts in preserving peace. The rule of law must prevail,” he added.
Davido stressed that ensuring a peaceful electoral process would be a crucial achievement for both politicians and security officials, including the Osun State Commissioner of Police.
He concluded by extending his best wishes to the commissioner and other security commanders in their ongoing efforts to address the security challenges in the state.
