While both have cemented their legacies in SA hip-hop, Ms Cosmo was quick to point out the different strengths each artist brought to the table.

“Lyrically, I have to give that to AKA. He was much stronger than Riky,” she said, acknowledging the Supa Mega’s precision with words. However, it wasn’t all about technicality. She went on to praise Riky Rick’s ability to captivate audiences, despite not always having the sharpest bars.

“Riky had more flare,” she added. “He knew how to convince you that his rubbish raps were still the dopest raps.” According to Ms Cosmo, Riky possessed a unique flair that made even the simplest of lines sound undeniably cool. She emphasized that not every artist has the ability to take what might be considered “throw-away” bars and transform them into something memorable.

“Riky understood how to finesse the simple raps and make it sound cool,” she continued. “And I think that’s a talent — not anybody can do that.”

While Ms Cosmo acknowledged AKA’s dominance in terms of lyrical prowess, she also noted that the late Riky Rick had moments of magic. “AKA had a little bit of both,” she said. “He also had those days where he could give us a throw-away rap, but he made it sound cool.”

In the end, while Ms Cosmo gave the edge to AKA when it comes to sheer lyrical strength, she made it clear that both artists brought something special to the culture, each in their own right. Their legacies will forever be remembered, not just for their lyricism, but for how they connected with audiences in ways that only they could.
