Netng was live at the Federal High Court in Lagos, where the bail hearing for Jude “Engees” Okoye (charge number FHC/L/65c/2025 – Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Jude Okoye Chigozie) took place today.
Although the defendant was initially absent, his brother, Paul Okoye, who has openly declared his support for him, was present. Moments later, Jude Okoye arrived, looking unbothered and dapper in a black Jalamia with matching sunglasses.
Representing Jude Okoye was a team led by renowned human rights advocate Inibere Effiong, alongside Dignity Ekoh, Aromen Matthew, and Para Maxwell. The session took a swift turn when the defendant’s counsel requested to expedite the matter due to his impending flight.
Justice Alexander Owoeye granted this request, allowing the counsel to proceed with his motion for bail. On the prosecution side, Fannel Anun presented the counter-arguments, emphasizing that Okoye is a flight risk with potential for witness tampering.
In his defense, the counsel maintained that Okoye has complied with all court invitations, asserting he is no flight risk. Meanwhile, Paul Okoye attempted to address the court directly but was told that his statements must go through his lawyer. Paul then communicated his readiness to secure bail for his brother, presenting relevant documents, though the judge noted familiarity with his TV appearances.
The hearing has been adjourned until March 3 for a ruling, with Jude Okoye to remain in the correctional facility for now. Paul Okoye has been advised to submit his documents on Monday, as the court will determine whether his efforts can sway the bail decision.
