Following the recent sanctions implemented by UEFA on Real Madrid questions have been asked as to if fans will be allowed to attend their upcoming UCL fixture against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernebau.
UEFA has sanctioned Real Madrid with a €30,000 fine and a conditional partial stadium closure following “discriminatory behavior” by supporters during last month’s Champions League clash against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The disciplinary action stems from the February 19, 2025, knockout phase playoff second leg, where Madrid secured a commanding 3-1 victory. Kylian Mbappé’s spectacular hat-trick propelled Los Blancos to the round of 16 with a 6-3 aggregate win.
In Friday’s announcement, UEFA’s Appeals Body cited violations of article 14 of its Disciplinary Regulations, which prohibits “insults against human dignity based on skin color, race, religion, ethnic origin, gender, or sexual orientation.” However, UEFA did not disclose specific details about the incidents that prompted the sanctions.
The punishment includes a two-year suspended sentence requiring the partial closure of at least 500 adjacent seats at the Bernabéu. This closure would only be enforced if similar violations occur within the probation period.
Real Madrid now turns their attention to Tuesday’s crucial Champions League (UCL) round-of-16 first leg against city rivals Atlético Madrid at the Bernabéu, where a full stadium of supporters is expected.
