Teams that have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Some teams have qualified for the expanded version of the FIFA World Cup which will be played in 2026 is around with less than 18 months to the competition.

48 teams will book their spots for the competition as against the initial 32 participating countries which has always been the from France 1998 to Qatar 2022. FIFA’s desire to eventually make the World Cup a 64-nation tournament as soon as 2030, meaning 2026 may be the sole 48-team competition.

2026 World Cup: Teams that have qualified for the competition

The three host nations have secured an automatic spot ( USA, Canada and, Mexico) after they secured the hosting rights. In South America, the supporters of Brazil, holders Argentina, and Uruguay can also start booking their flight tickets for the competition.

Japan and Iran are the first two countries to qualify for the competition from the Asia Football Confederation.

New Zealand returned to the World Cup via OFC qualification, while New Caledonia will be looking for a spot via the inter-continental play-off. However, Australia will be looking to join their Oceanic neighbours in North America, but they can get that spot via their AFC qualifying group.

No team have qualified from Europe or Africa as the qualifying games are yet to be concluded.

Who will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

The first 48-team World Cup will be held in North America, with the USA, Canada and Mexico all hosting matches at the tournament. 11 of the 16 venues playing host are in the US, with three in Mexico and two in Canada.
