Nigerian music icon 2Baba has opened up about his approach to dealing with public backlash, revealing how he maintains a positive attitude despite the negativity that sometimes surrounds him.

In a recent interview on Binging With Game Changers, the ‘African Queen’ hitmaker admitted that while negative comments can be hurtful, they don’t define who he is as a person. The 49-year-old singer shared that over time, he has built a “thick skin” to handle criticism and remain focused on his journey.

“For me, I just knew that I had to stand up to my responsibility. Sometimes, things happen, and people talk all kinds of jokes and malicious comments. It hurts. It gets to you sometimes,” 2Baba explained. “But know that this is the way of the world. You just have to be able to try and grow some thick skin and say, ‘You know what, I am still going to keep my head high because I know that where I am going is bigger and better than all this stuff.’”

The father of seven also shared his secret to overcoming difficult moments: turning negative situations into something positive. “I know that does not define me. It does not make me a monster. Within you, you have to cheer yourself up. Sometimes you watch a comedy show, sometimes you laugh at jokes made about you. Always try to turn every situation into a positive.”

2Baba emphasized that worrying excessively only makes things worse. “For me, I know that the moment I start worrying too much, it becomes more problem. I know that there is a solution to everything that comes up,” he added.

The singer’s ability to rise above criticism has been tested in recent months, particularly following the public scrutiny that followed his January split from wife Annie Idibia. Shortly after, 2Baba confirmed his relationship with Edo lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, triggering a storm of negative reactions from both the public and some celebrities, including media personality Toke Makinwa.

In February, 2Baba made headlines once again when he proposed to Natasha, further asserting that their relationship had no connection to his separation from Annie. Recently, Natasha made waves on social media by updating her Instagram bio to include 2Baba’s surname, while Annie, in a bold move, removed his surname from her bio and reverted to her maiden name.
