Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about the harsh criticism and backlash he has faced throughout his career, describing himself as the “most bashed and disrespected” artist in Nigerian music history.
During a recent interview, the DMW boss reflected on the toll online trolling can take, not just on him but also on artists signed under his label. According to him, negative comments on social media often affect his signees, but he always advises them not to pay attention to online trolls.
“I think in the history of Nigeria, I am the most bashed and disrespected artist,” Davido stated. “In Nigeria, if you are the son of a successful man, you gonna get it.”
Despite the criticism, Davido has continued to rise as one of Africa’s most celebrated music exports, maintaining resilience and inspiring many with his success story.
