Football icon Lionel Messi has responded to questions on whether he would be available for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
With just 14 months until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Argentina’s legendary forward Lionel Messi has yet to confirm whether he will participate in the tournament, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will co-host.
The reigning champions, Argentina, secured their latest title in Qatar in 2022 and will be looking to go on their title defense with a strong squad, but Messi’s response in the recent tell-all interview has thrown doubts into that plan.
Messi has achieved nearly every possible milestone in his career, including eight Ballon d’Or titles, four Champions League victories, a Copa América, and a FIFA World Cup triumph. However, speculation continues regarding whether he will be part of Argentina’s squad for the upcoming competition.
Reflecting on his future, Messi stated in an interview with Simplemente Fútbol, “This year will be crucial in deciding my participation in the 2026 World Cup. I wouldn’t be truthful if I said I haven’t thought about it.”
