Financial reports now indicate that Man United might suffer a £100m loss if they fail to win the Europa League, and here is why.

With the prospect of European football in the 2025/2026 season hanging by a thin thread for Man United, recent reports have highlighted that the Red Devils might be forced to endure a huge loss if they fail to win the Europa League.

Currently sitting in 14th place and trailing Newcastle, who are in sixth, by a significant 21 points, their chances of qualifying for European football through league standings appear bleak.

Their situation worsened with a recent FA Cup defeat to Fulham in the fifth round at Old Trafford, closing off another potential route to European competition.

Now, their only remaining hope for European football next season lies in winning the Europa League.

Professor Rob Wilson, Director of Executive Education at the University Campus of Football Business, highlighted the immense financial implications of United’s Europa League campaign during an interview with Genting Casino.

He estimated the value of their Europa League run at £100 million, emphasising the high stakes involved.

According to Wilson, failing to win the tournament would mean missing out on European football entirely, resulting in no prize money and a loss of approximately £60 million.

Additionally, the club would forfeit around £10 million in matchday revenue from the extra games they would have played.

Wilson also pointed out that certain clauses in commercial agreements and sponsorships would lead to reduced values, further contributing to the financial impact.

He concluded that the total loss could comfortably amount to £100 million.
