Rooted in the soulful echoes of his childhood and shaped by a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, Senegalese artist Cheikh Ibra Fam releases his latest single, “Xam Xam,” a heartfelt tribute to the power of wisdom, heritage, and the voices that shape us.

Produced by Hakim Abdulsamad (The Boys, Akon) and released via the respected global label Cumbancha, Xam Xam draws listeners in with its rich instrumentation, warm production, and emotionally resonant message. Meaning “knowledge” in Wolof, the song blends the rhythmic spirit of Caribbean zouk and Angolan kizomba with the soulful pulse of West Africa, creating a track that is both timeless and contemporary.

From its opening notes, Xam Xam carries an inviting bounce — a smooth, engaging rhythm layered with ethereal kora strings and dynamic backup vocals that elevate the entire listening experience. Cheikh’s vocals glide effortlessly over the beat, delivering each line with clarity, confidence, and intention.

The song features a stellar lineup: Coly Cissé — Cheikh’s uncle and mentor — on guitar and bass, Ansoumane on kora, Jacob Edgar on trumpet, and Cheikh himself on lead vocals and composition. Together, they build a sonic world that feels intimate yet expansive, personal yet universal.

Accompanying the release is a vibrant music video filmed in Saint-Louis, Senegal, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Directed with purpose and heart, the visual brings the message of Xam Xam to life — a reminder that knowledge is not only found in books or classrooms, but in everyday life, in the wisdom of our elders, and in the traditions passed through generations.

Cheikh Ibra Fam’s musical journey began in the city of Mbour, nurtured by a family steeped in poetry, art, and storytelling. From spiritual Baye Fall chants to Afro-Cuban classics and American soul, his influences span continents. After rising to global prominence as a member of the legendary Orchestra Baobab, Cheikh is now forging his own path, and Xam Xam is a powerful step forward.

With his upcoming album Adouna on the horizon, Xam Xam sets the tone for a deeply reflective and musically rich body of work. The project will explore themes of migration, identity, love, and the human search for meaning.
