Taylor Swift has officially reclaimed ownership of her entire music catalog, a victory the global pop superstar described as “the reality of my greatest dream.”
In a heartfelt statement shared on her official website, the 14-time Grammy winner announced that she now owns the master recordings to all of her music from her self-titled 2006 debut to her most recent releases.
“All of the music I’ve ever made now belongs to me,” Swift wrote. “I’ve been bursting into tears of joy… ever since I found out this is really happening.”
The journey to this milestone began in 2019, when music executive Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Records, Swift’s former label. The deal included the master rights to her first six studio albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation. Swift publicly opposed the acquisition, accusing Braun of being complicit in “relentless and manipulative bullying,” particularly in relation to his client Kanye West — with whom Swift has a long and contentious history.
What followed was a determined campaign by Swift to regain control of her life’s work — a mission that included re-recording and releasing “Taylor’s Versions” of her early albums to critical and commercial acclaim.
“I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now,” she wrote to fans. “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now.”
Swift began writing music at age 14 and signed with Big Machine Records in 2005. She quickly rose to fame, evolving from a country prodigy to a pop powerhouse. After parting ways with Big Machine in 2018, she signed with Republic Records, where she secured ownership of her future masters.
Now 35, Swift stands as one of the most powerful and influential figures in the music industry. With over 200 million records sold worldwide, she’s the most-streamed female artist on Spotify and Apple Music and holds the record as the highest-grossing female touring act in history.
Her accolades are as impressive as her fan base: 14 Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy, 40 American Music Awards, 39 Billboard Music Awards, and 23 MTV Video Music Awards.
