Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has shed light on his alleged involvement in the controversial Naira abuse case that landed crossdresser Bobrisky in jail last year. In a candid interview on Arise TV, the ‘Jeje’ crooner confirmed that Bobrisky reached out to him via Instagram, seeking legal assistance while facing prosecution.
The saga, which stirred online drama in 2024, saw Bobrisky sentenced to six months in prison for violating Nigeria’s currency laws by defacing the Naira. During the heat of the controversy, internet personality VeryDarkMan released a voice recording allegedly of a conversation between Bobrisky and Falz. In the clip, Bobrisky claimed he had been contacted by Falz and human rights lawyer Femi Falana while serving his sentence.
However, Bobrisky swiftly denied the authenticity of the recording, branding it as fake and threatening legal action against VeryDarkMan for defamation.
Speaking during the televised interview, Falz clarified his side of the story. He acknowledged that Bobrisky had indeed messaged him seeking help, but said his response was purely from a place of compassion — something he routinely extends to others needing legal support.
“Before that incident or phone call, I never had a relationship [with Bobrisky],” Falz explained. “She messaged me on Instagram saying, ‘I’m in this situation. I want to speak to you about how you can help me.’”
The rapper, who is known for his outspoken activism and legal background, said he gave Bobrisky an audience as he would anyone else seeking guidance. “Tons and tons of people message me about similar issues. And in all those cases, I ask: What’s the plea? How can I help?”
Falz admitted that the fallout from the interaction caught him off guard and led to public backlash, but he emphasized that it won’t deter him from offering help in the future — though he now plans to be more careful.
“As they say, once bitten, twice shy,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean I’ll stop helping people. It’s just about being a little more cautious.”
