Legendary Nigerian actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, is celebrating an extraordinary milestone, 60 years in the entertainment industry with the release of a brand-new movie titled Her Excellency.
The 73-year-old thespian, whose illustrious career began in 1964, will premiere the film on June 29, with a nationwide cinema release scheduled for July 4.
The announcement was made in an emotional video shared by his son, actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo, who praised his father’s remarkable journey and legacy in the Nigerian film industry.
Femi added that the project is more than just a film — it’s a heartfelt tribute to a man whose dedication to storytelling and culture has inspired generations.
Adebayo Salami’s journey began with the Young Concert Party, led by the late Ojo Ladipo (Baba Mero). The troupe later evolved into the famed Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group, which Salami eventually led after Ladipo’s death in 1978.
He made history by appearing in Ajani Ogun, the first-ever Yoruba-language film, starring alongside the late Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love). In 1985, Salami produced his first movie, Ogun Ajaye, under the Awada Kerikeri banner, further cementing his place in the Yoruba film movement.
Over the decades, Salami has become a defining figure in Nollywood, particularly in Yoruba cinema, known for his rich storytelling, cultural preservation, and mentorship of younger talent.
His legacy lives on not only through his body of work but also through his children Femi, Tope, and Sodiq Adebayo, who have all made successful careers in acting and film production.
