The Nigerian entertainment world is in mourning following the passing of Kayode Peters, the beloved actor, comedian, director, and producer, who died at the age of 49 in Canada on Saturday, June 29, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
A pioneering figure in Nigeria’s sitcom and theatre scenes, Kayode Peters left a mark on Nollywood and beyond. His family confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement, drawing the curtain on a storied career that spanned over two decades.
The news of his death sent shockwaves across the industry, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans alike.
Comedian and actor Basketmouth, who starred alongside Peters in the sitcom My Flatmates, took to his social media page to express his sorrow. He wrote, “Rest in peace, blood”.

Okey Bakassi, who starred alongside Peters in the beloved sitcom My Flatmates, shared an emotional message on social media reflecting the shock and pain of the loss.
“This world shaaa!!! It’s not making sense… words fail me… a kind-hearted gentleman, friend, and brother. KP, my guy… I’ll miss you. Rest in the Lord, great man,” he wrote.
Veteran entertainer Tee A also reacted with visible heartbreak, commenting simply: ‘Noooooo with Crying emojis,” under the post announcing Peters’ death.
