Judge denies Diddy bail after guilty verdict

A federal judge has denied Sean Diddy Combs’ request for bail following his conviction on two counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution, citing the music mogul’s “disregard for the rule of law and a propensity for violence.”

Judge Arun Subramanian delivered the ruling and denied Diddy bail shortly after a jury reached its verdict on Wednesday morning. He acquitted Diddy of the most serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges but finding him guilty on lesser counts. Despite the partial verdict, Combs’ defense team, led by Marc Agnifilo, argued for his release on a $1 million bond while awaiting sentencing.

The judge, however, sided with federal prosecutors and the legal team representing Cassie Ventura, one of Combs’ accusers, who warned against granting bail. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey insisted that Combs remained a flight risk and a danger, pointing to his history of violent behavior and rule-breaking.

“There is clear evidence of a disregard for the rule of law and a demonstrated propensity for violence,” Subramanian stated, denying the motion.

Earlier in the day, jurors announced at 9:52 a.m. ET that they had reached a verdict on all counts after days of deliberation. In a dramatic courtroom moment, Combs faced the gallery and clapped after the verdict was read, prompting applause from supporters before he was led out by U.S. Marshals.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. ET. While Combs’ attorneys have expressed a desire to expedite the process by waiving a pre-sentencing investigation, prosecutors maintain that the complex nature of the case and opposing views on sentencing guidelines require a thorough review.

Outside the courthouse, reactions to the verdict were divided. Ventura’s attorney hailed her for “paving the way” toward accountability, while others, including Dawn Richard’s legal counsel, voiced disappointment at the acquittals on the more serious charges.

Combs, who has remained in custody since his arrest in September 2024, now faces up to 20 years in federal prison for the convictions.
