Spotify has unveiled its list of the top 30 most globally streamed Nigerian songs for the first half of 2025, and Rema takes the crown. His 2025 single ‘Baby (Is It A Crime)’ has not only captivated fans locally but has also become the most streamed Nigerian track worldwide.
Released in February, the hit track pays homage to Sade Adu’s 1985 classic of the same name. Since its debut, ‘Baby (Is It A Crime)’ has surged across international charts, firmly cementing Rema’s position as one of Afrobeats’ leading global ambassadors.
The streaming giant released the mid-year roundup on Monday, highlighting the unstoppable global rise of Nigerian music, particularly the dominance of Afrobeats across continents.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the genre’s growing impact.
“This year’s Global Impact List is a testament to the vast range and international appeal of Nigerian music,” she said. “It’s particularly exciting to observe Afrobeats not only dominating but continually evolving, capturing the attention of a global audience. Spotify is proud to be part of this movement.”
