In a revealing interview, superstar producer Tempoe has confirmed a long-standing rumor, admitting he “had to stand in the way” of Omah Lay’s previous album, leading to the entire project being scrapped.

Speaking on the popular podcast WithAnSpod on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Tempoe offered a rare glimpse into the creative process of Omah Lay’s album and the difficult decisions made behind the scenes.

“It is true. It was a lot of songs that he loved that were on that wave. He wanted to put some of them out but I had to stand in the way of some of them,” Tempoe confessed. He elaborated that while Omah Lay was passionate about the tracks, he felt they didn’t align with the artist’s potential for a career-defining project. “As a producer, sometimes you have to see the bigger picture and protect the artist from themselves. The goal is not just to release music, but to create a legacy.”

The partnership between Omah Lay and Tempoe is one of the most successful in modern Afrobeats. The duo has been responsible for some of Omah Lay’s most iconic hits, including Godly, Soso, and Pami, among others. This history of trust and creative synergy made Tempoe’s intervention an evidence of his commitment to Omah Lay’s long-term success.

Tempoe’s candidness provides a fascinating look into the often-unseen side of music production, where a producer’s role extends beyond creating beats to becoming a critical creative partner and a guardian of the artist’s brand. While the scrapped album remains a mystery, the revelation offers a deeper appreciation for the high standards that have consistently propelled Omah Lay to the forefront of the global music scene.
