Adekunle Gold is definitely up to something, and we suspect that he might just be gearing up for his sixth studio album. If recent clues are anything to go by, he is set to shake the industry with the plans up his sleeve.
While the recent news surrounding him has been about his family and love for Manchester United, the afropop sensation hosted an exclusive black-and-white themed dinner party in collaboration with The Macallan, themed ‘The Macallan x AG Coco Dinner’.
The guest list was inclusive of Nigerian entertainment industry heavyweights like Falz, Poco Lee, Pheelz, Ladipoe, BOJ, Kiekie, Tobi Bakre, Lojay, and more.
Although we are still unsure what ‘Coco’ stands for, it wasn’t that, or the star-studded attendees, that got people talking.
It was the aesthetics.
The entire evening unfolded in monochrome, from the décor to the final photos shared online. For fans familiar with AG Baby’s artistic evolution, this wasn’t a random choice. It was a signal. Adekunle Gold doesn’t do anything halfway. His visuals always align with the story he’s telling, or the one he’s about to tell.
Since the release of Tequila Ever After in July 2023, his first project under Def Jam Recordings, Adekunle Gold has proven he’s not just making music; he’s curating experiences.
That album wove together Afrobeats, highlife, amapiano, and global pop, featuring collaborators like Pharrell Williams, Khalid, and his wife, Simi. It was bold, stylish, and international; a sonic passport that introduced AG Baby 2.0.
Now, in February, he teased a new collaboration with Davido on the latter’s upcoming album ‘5ive’, and dropped a Valentine’s Day single, “Obimo,” rooted in romance and smooth melodies.
Although the collaboration with Davido didn’t happen after the latter dropped his album last month. However, these drops suggest he’s testing the waters, slowly warming fans up for a new era.
So, what should we expect from AG Baby? Album Six?
More international flair? Possibly. A deeper dive into his visual storytelling? Likely. A genre-bending soundscape that ties it all together? Almost guaranteed.
While no official announcement has been made, the signs are there. The dinner. The aesthetic. The new music. The collaborators. If we have learned anything from Adekunle Gold, it’s that he’s always ten steps ahead, and when the reveal comes, it’s never ordinary.
Until then, we watch, we listen, and we speculate. Something is coming. It may be his album. And it might just be his most iconic yet.
