In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ghanaian singer-songwriter Amaarae revealed that her forthcoming album BLACK STAR is her boldest and most personal project yet.

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Amaarae is setting her sights on global impact with her forthcoming album BLACK STAR, describing it as her boldest and most personal work yet.

In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Amaarae spoke about the inspiration behind the project and her hopes to create a record that resonates worldwide.

“My soul can’t rest until I feel like I’ve made a project that resonates in a really huge way globally,” the genre-bending artist said. “The last frontier is to make both a commercial and critical success.”

Amaarae tells Rolling Stone she hopes to take over the world with her upcoming album ‘BLACK STAR’:

According to Amaarae, BLACK STAR sees the artist diving deeper into her identity as both a woman and an artist. The album’s title carries layered meaning, serving as a triple entendre referencing herself, the Ghanaian flag, and the Black cultural roots of the dance music she fuses throughout the record. It represents Amaarae’s creative mission to reimagine genres and sounds through the lens of her African heritage.

“Is the genesis of me feeling sure and confident in myself as a grown woman, number one, and knowing exactly what my message is,” Amaarae explained. “I’m taking my culture and I’m synthesizing it in a way that feels fresh and unique… I wanted to take a genre that needs to go back home to its roots and merge that with my African roots and hip-hop and create a new world.”

Amaarae talks to Rolling Stone about her upcoming album ‘BLACK STAR’, which references herself and roots:

The artist also reflected on her connection with American pop star Sabrina Carpenter, noting their shared sense of bold, unapologetic femininity. “She’s a freak just like me,” Amaarae said with a laugh. “Hers is bright and colorful; mine is dark and edgy. But we’re both saying the same thing: We’re sexual beings, and we are women who feel free and confident in that.”

Amaarae to Rolling Stone on how she and Sabrina Carpenter relate:
