Another Chelsea legend has confirmed his retirement date from international football in his latest announcement.

Chelsea and Arsenal legend Olivier Giroud has announced that he will retire from international duty after representing France in the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. The highest goalscorer for the France national team who was named in Deschamps’s provisional squad for Euro 2024, confirmed that he would be retiring from all international activities after the tournament.

Giroud stated in an interview that he plans to retire from international football with France following the Euro 2024 competition in Germany. The former Chelsea player’s retirement announcement came as a shock to many and left further questions about when he would retire from club football activities.

Giroud has established himself as a key player for the France team, having been part of the squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia despite not managing a single shot on target or a goal.

Additionally, he played a significant role in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring four goals and contributing to the team’s journey to the final, where they ultimately lost to Argentina on penalties.

In the interview, he said, “This will be my last competition with Les Bleus. I’m going to miss it a lot. We need to make way for the youngsters. You also have to be careful not to have one season too many. You have to find the right balance.”

Giroud also confirmed that he would be leaving the Italian Serie A and completing a move to play in the MLS for LAFC. He also confirmed this move in an official statement that read, The next two games will be my last for Milan. My career will continue in MLS. I’m very proud of everything I’ve done here at Milan across three seasons. It’s the right time to announce it.”
